On Pause

Hi! Thanks for visiting our site. We are filled with immense gratitude and joy for all of your support in such a short period of time. Our short term goals for this brand have been surpassed, thanks to all of the support that we received from our clients, community, suppliers, and industry contacts. By the time we released our first collection, we were featured in Vogue Italia and British Vogue, among other magazines, picked up by numerous boutiques, and sold out during our sample sales - and it’s all thanks to our wonderful community and supporters.

After working in the fashion industry for 15 consecutive years, often 6-7 days a week, our CEO became a mother and decided to spend uninterrupted time with her child. The decision was made to put the brand on hold. Initially, the plan was to skip a maximum of 2 seasons.

During this time, we researched fashion sustainability even further, with one goal in mind, to become the most sustainable brand that we can possibly be. We came to one conclusion; our world is filled with endless brands, new products, textiles, and no matter how you want to spin it, if you’re making new products, it’s near impossible to truly be 100% sustainable.

Our intention to relaunch was one year, the timing happened to be at the height of the the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic, coupled with all of the newly gained information we digested about sustainability, it didn’t make sense to make a new collection and contribute to the immense amount of products on our planet while furthering supply chain issues. Pandemic supply chain issues have prevented people from having access to food and medical supplies and having a brand means constantly ordering supplies and shipping product, additionally slowing down the system.

There are many different avenues that are possible to follow that contribute positively to our planet and having a clothing brand is not one of them. Our brand’s name “Aiki District” means souls being in unison and harmony within nature, we’d be going against our nature not following the most sustainable path.

While we are grateful to our community and supporters, our brand has decided to say goodbye until we discover a product to make that contributes positively to our planet instead of being a detriment.

Feel free to follow us on Instagram or add your name to our newsletter and we’ll send a quick hello if we ever re-launch.

Until then, lots of love, especially if you made it to the end of this message, thank you and goodbye!

Circular Economy & Sustainability

Being sustainable is thinking about production, how and more importantly, why our products are made, where our textiles come, the processes in our supply chain, and what happens to the product when it reaches the end of its life cycle.

Catwalk Music

We didn't want typical fashion show beats and after listening to endless songs we didn't feel connected to, we decided to stick to the songs that move us for various reasons. The SS18 collection is named after this song so it only seemed fair to include it in the catwalk!

Etsuko + Carla Sahagun

We love the work photographer Etsuko Lee and Makeup artist Carla Sahagun produce! This post is dedicated to our love for the duo.

We first connected with the two incredibly talented ladies on a photo shoot and have since then worked on several projects with both of them. The ladies are incredibly talented with strong visions that embody beauty, grace, and power.

One of our favourite shoots of our Collection with Etsuko Lee and Carla Sahagun includes the stunning model Brina Lyon and hair stylist Diana Godinez. Other images from our collaborations with them have been published on Vogue Italia which you can view in our Published section.
